The baptism candidate was from Japan. She is sales manager for a large international Japanese company. Two years ago she knew nothing about Jesus or the Bible. She had been to a church in Japan once or twice to observe a wedding. That was all. Then she was transferred to Hanoi.
She came here knowing nothing. But a Malaysian began to share the Good News and brought her to HIF. She came to faith some months ago, but was out of the country when we held a baptism service in April. The one who brought her to Christ leaves Vietnam next week. Our new believer was very eager to be baptized before her friend left. So we arranged a "private baptism" for her.
Twenty two of us gathered to witness her baptism. The house with a pool that hosted the baptism is owned by Vietnamese but leased by Americans. A group of seven Japanese Christians (part of our International Church but also part of a Japanese fellowship that meets once a month) sang two hymns in Japanese. After she shared her testimony and I shared some verses we went to the pool.
There this Canadian pastor, assisted by the Malaysian woman who led her to Christ, baptized our Japanese new believer in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Utako is so very grateful that she knows Christ. When I asked her if she has a favorite Bible story, she must have understood me to say favorite verse for she replied "I am the Way". She is so thankful that she has found the Way and was so grateful that we could arrange this individual time for her to be baptized.
So this Saturday evening 21 of us from seven nations witnessed a Japanese woman who found Christ in Hanoi being baptized. Jesus told his followers to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing and teaching everything I have commanded."It is still happening all around our globe!
