SECURE INVESTMENTS, SETTLED HEART

If you had told me for most of my life that I might be worried about investments I would have laughed. Jan and I were very thankful each month that the amount of income had equalled the amount of outgo. Through God's grace and the giving of His people we always had enough but rarely anything in savings and certainly no investments.
In the last few years we finally were able to make several small investments and then two years ago when we sold our house, we invested more.
We now have experienced what millions of others have experienced: good looking safe investments that in fact turned out to be neither good nor safe. It is not a lot of money, but now I know what it is to invest in something and lose part (and maybe all of the investment). I am not complaining. Instead I am experiencing why Jesus gave us such clear and wise counsel.
"Sell your possessions and give to the poor.Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
I am not sure the fellow who has caused our investments to do badly is a thief. But according to some he comes very close to that category. Yup, Jesus warned that investments here on earth just cannot and should not be fully relied upon. But when most or all of your treasure is invested in heaven, it is fully secure and you enjoy a peaceful, settled heart. Your focus and concern follows your investments.
The money we have given away to (invested in) the Kingdom work of God, is fully secure. And I am thankful that we are far more invested in God's eternal kingdom than in our financial investments here. One clear indicator: neither of us spends much time thinking about or feeling concern about money that may have been lost. We know where our primary treasure is - and that is where our heart is also.
I hope you are investing wisely!
