Everything has a beginning. So how did our world, our universe begin? The answer to this huge, most fundamental of questions results in all types of mental gymnastics and sometimes almost spiritual language on the part of biologists, physicists, and atheists.
How have religions dealt with this fundamental question? The story of creation is told in a variety of ways. Recently a speaker pointed out that almost all ancient creation stories involve gods and goddesses in actions of violence. In contrast, the Bible simply says, "In the beginning, God created".
Our God is love, eternally. Father, Son and Spirit in perfect unity. Together the Trinity chose to create the universe and the world which we inhabit. The creative word was spoken and all creation came into being. A mystery - peaceful yet powerfully energized. Creative without building on destruction.
Followers of our Creative Christ are called to live in peace; called to be peacemakers in our too often violent world. How encouraging to know that He is the God of Peace. He began our world in peace and one day He will bring universal peace as "swords become ploughs and the lion and lamb lie down peacefully together."
